On behalf of the Town Council of the Town of St. Stephen and the entire community, I would like to welcome you to our Town.  We are a community on the move in the midst of renewal and endless opportunities.

With a new highway now well underway creating a new and improved trade corridor and a downtown development plan in progress - we are moving ahead with many new positive developments making our community an even better place to live.

The historic St. Croix River runs between St. Stephen, New Brunswick and our neighbours in Calais, Maine.  Family ties on both sides of the river run deep and we are steeped in interesting history.  It is the birthplace of European civilization North America.  It also has a long lumbering history, there was cotton weaving, soap manufacturing and of course, candy making.

We are Canada's Chocolate Town, home to Ganong Brothers at the same time enjoying a diverse economy.

You will find friendly people, enjoyable nature trails, interesting architecture and be in the middle of the service district of the County - where it all happens!

After all, St. Stephen has a history of making it happen.  So come stay and get to know us - you'll be glad you did!

Our Business Park bustles with the manufacturing of fiberboard, fencing, cabinets, metal fabricating and steel tanks. The Park is serviced by rail and truck, both very accessible to the Canadian and American markets.

St. Stephen is the service centre of the county, with many government agencies, the Charlotte County Hospital and a small university. Our schools are well staffed and housed in modern facilities.

The greatest asset of the community is its people, preserving a "small town" quality of life, offering many cultural and recreational activities and facilities. Each year, St. Stephen and its sister community, Calais, Maine, celebrate their common heritage with International Festival, and Chocolate Fest attracts chocolate lovers from across the continent.

yachtclub.gifWe cherish our beautiful geographical location on the tidal headwaters of the St. Croix Estuary. We are blessed with a built heritage, representing a diversity of architectural styles existing from pre 1800.

St. Stephen's past is rich in the diversity and quality of its citizens and today the community continues to meet the ongoing changes of society; proud of the past, in touch with the present but with an eye to the future.
